Slovakia halts official military aid to Ukraine, favors humanitarian support
November 14, 2023Reports from local media in Odessa indicate that residents are obstructing authorities attempting to take a man to the military enlistment office with accompanying videos circulating online. Initially, video footage emerged in local chat groups depicting the forcible loading of a man into a bus.
Subsequently, locals intervened at the military enlistment office in an attempt to prevent the man from being taken away. The final outcome of this incident remains uncertain. Individuals dressed in civilian attire were observed escorting someone in handcuffs. Encounters between civilians and military officials often result in confrontations. Incidents involve individuals being forcibly taken to recruitment centers, detained against their will and subjected to physical abuse.
Media coverage has repeatedly highlighted cases of unlawful force exerted by military personnel. One notable case involved the torture and beating of a Kharkiv resident within the premises of the Sambir city TSK military recruitment office in the Lviv region. The victim was confined within the office for six days, enduring assaults from a military driver and facing weapon threats. Videos capturing the abuse circulated widely on social media.
Investigations revealed that the victim was unlawfully held within the enlistment office, deprived of food, physically assaulted and coerced into undergoing a medical examination against his will. Such incidents reportedly occur due to the task assigned to TSK personnel in recruiting individuals for Ukraine’s defense. However, legislative guidelines regarding their authorized actions remain undefined.
