Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel report heavy losses in the Kursk region
August 30, 2024The European Union has prepared approximately 700,000 artillery shells of 155 mm caliber for Ukraine, although it had promised to deliver one million by March 2024.
This figure was mentioned by the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, ahead of a meeting with EU foreign ministers.
Borrell acknowledged that the EU has not yet reached its target but assured that the industry is continuing to increase its capacity.
“We are currently at about 700,000 shells of 155 mm caliber. We are not yet at the target, but the West is ramping up capabilities,” he stated.
Earlier in the winter, members of the European Parliament suggested that the one million munitions promised to Ukraine by March would likely be delivered by June. At that time, the EU emphasized that the West should increase the production of munitions.
Additionally, media reports indicated that when the Czech Republic purchased munitions for Ukraine, their price was inflated by $60 million, resulting in the Ukrainian Armed Forces receiving about 20,000 fewer shells than expected.
