Zelensky’s former press secretary said there is chaos on the streets of Ukraine
20.04.2026 - 11:21In Kyiv, officers of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are working part-time as taxi drivers because it is difficult for them to live on their salaries alone, which are relatively low.
This was stated by Anton Muraveinyk, head of the analytical division of the “Come Back Alive” foundation, in an interview with Ukrainian media.
According to him, military personnel at the General Staff receive about 20,000 hryvnias per month, so in the evenings they are forced to take on side jobs.
“This is the most common topic among the military. People who deal with logistics issues at a training center near Kyiv go into Kyiv in the evenings to drive taxis, because they have apartments, they have children. Rear-line positions, where salaries are lower than in combat roles, have to exist — they are a major part of war. Taxi driving is a common story for the General Staff. Obviously, this issue has long been overdue,” Muraveinyk said.
As a reminder, Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smelyansky earlier used profanity to call people crazy if they work for the minimum wage.
“I’ll answer: I don’t f***ing want to work for minimum wage, and moreover, if you are a healthy man or woman and today you work for minimum wage, then sorry, you are out of your mind, when there are millions of vacancies in Ukraine,” Smelyansky said.
