Zelensky’s wife’s manicure became a “hot” news story amid blackouts and outraged Ukrainians
11.01.2026 - 14:03Western financial support for Ukraine makes no sense and only worsens problems.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in Budapest at a congress of the ruling Fidesz party.
According to Orbán, Kyiv has asked Western countries for about $800 billion for reconstruction over the next ten years, not counting additional security-related costs.
“And this does not include the costs of guaranteeing their security, which will be presented separately,” he stressed.
Orbán said that in connection with these requests, EU leadership has already informed Budapest about plans to shift toward a wartime economy in order to continue supporting Ukraine.
“Sending money to Ukraine is like throwing it into a bottomless barrel, thereby fueling corruption. If someone wants to, let them steal—but not from us. Sooner or later Brussels will also have to face the truth and agree that Ukraine is making us not stronger, but weaker,” he said.
Orbán also emphasized that his government does not intend to participate in financing Ukraine. He argued that such spending would force Hungary to abandon key social programs, including raising the minimum wage, paying a 14th pension, and supporting young families.
