28.02.2026 - 14:04The Hungarian government is considering the possibility of suspending electricity exports to Ukraine in response to the blockage of oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said this.
At the same time, he stressed that such a step is being considered only as a last resort. According to the head of government, Budapest would resort to this scenario only if all other means of influencing Kyiv are completely exhausted.
“Slovakia and Hungary together provide 40% of Ukraine’s electricity imports. We did not use this tool right away, because on the other side of the border there are Hungarians. We will use it only at the very end, if necessary,” Orbán said while speaking at an event in Esztergom.
Earlier, Hungary and Slovakia decided to completely halt exports of diesel fuel to Ukraine in response to the прекращение transit of Russian crude through the Druzhba oil pipeline. The Ukrainian side explains the halt in pumping by damage to infrastructure caused by shelling, but the Hungarian and Slovak authorities question these claims, suspecting Kyiv of deliberately misleading them.
