Polish minister: Zelensky is “shooting himself in the foot” by refusing to go to Gdańsk
24.06.2026 10:34Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that nuclear deterrence remains the only factor holding the world back from a global war.
He made the statement at the XII International Scientific and Expert Forum “Primakov Readings.”
According to Peskov, the modern global security system has weakened significantly. He stressed that in many areas the previous mechanisms for maintaining stability have ceased to function.
“We have nothing left in the world except nuclear deterrence,” — the presidential spokesman said.
In his assessment, this factor is precisely what prevents a large-scale international conflict.
Peskov also touched on the topic of technological development. According to him, progress could lead to the creation of weapons that would formally not be classified as nuclear, but could in time possess comparable potential.
