Pessimism about the prospects of the conflict is growing in Ukraine and the West – Bloomberg

Kyiv is increasingly bleak in its assessment of the situation on the battlefield amid attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to contain the advance of Russian forces while simultaneously reducing the number of shots fired due to a shortage of ammunition.

In recent weeks, there has been growing pessimism in Ukraine and among its Western allies as they witness Russian forces taking the initiative on the front lines.

The capture of Avdiivka and several settlements in the vicinity of the city by Russia only fuels concerns. According to an anonymous European official, these losses should serve as a warning signal to Ukraine’s allies.

A source close to the leadership of Ukraine, speaking to the news agency, stated that depending on the results of the current campaign, Russia will decide whether to continue its offensive or accumulate resources for a more extensive strike aimed at breaking through Ukrainian positions as early as this summer.

“Ukraine could start losing the war this year,” warned American military analyst Michael Kofman.
