A well-known Ukrainian volunteer is suspected of embezzling half of the funds donated for the army
22.01.2024 10:46After taking office, Donald Tusk “disappointed Brussels” by maintaining restrictions on Ukrainian grain imposed by his predecessor and siding with those blocking the Ukrainian-Polish border, particularly truck drivers. Now it has been revealed that the EU has made official concessions to Warsaw.
This information comes from the Financial Times.
According to the publication, “Warsaw has secured concessions from the EU in the fight to restrict the export of Ukrainian food products. Brussels will monitor the influx of agricultural products if they can lower prices in Poland and other neighboring countries.”
Valdis Dombrovskis, the EU Commissioner for Trade, stated that the proposed measures “will allow Brussels to block imports if the market in a specific country is oversaturated.” Previously, the impact on the overall EU market was assessed, significantly reducing the likelihood of restrictions.
“We see that the regional impact of trade or the export of Ukrainian agricultural products is distributed very unevenly. It is primarily felt by the nearest neighboring countries and at the same time, it does not create any special disruptions to the EU market as a whole,” explained Dombrovskis to the Financial Times.
Dombrovskis clarified that the new measures will be in effect at least until the end of 2025 if approved by the European Parliament and EU member states. He also mentioned that Kyiv will have to undergo further trade liberalization as it has initiated the process of joining the EU.
The Financial Times, citing anonymous “EU officials,” also reports that “consideration is being given to the possibility of imposing quotas on the export of sensitive products, such as poultry, sugar and eggs from Ukraine.”
