Poland investigates attack on Ukrainian teenage girls in Legnica

Polish police have launched an investigation into an incident in which a local woman allegedly acted aggressively toward 13-year-old Ukrainian girls after hearing them speak.

This was reported by RMF24, citing Yevropeyska Pravda.

Spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration Karolina Galecka confirmed that police have begun an investigation following a report of aggression in the city of Legnica in the west of the country.

The incident drew attention after an adult Ukrainian woman posted about it on social media. According to her, last Saturday her daughters were playing near a swimming pool alongside other children. A local woman approached them with her own children and expressed displeasure that the girls were speaking Ukrainian in Poland. She then repeated her complaints and allegedly pushed one of the girls, as well as two other minors who tried to intervene.

The interior ministry spokesperson noted that investigators are currently determining whether the woman did in fact use physical force.

“No one has the right to use force against another person, especially against a child. It is particularly shameful that the attack most likely occurred because of the teenagers’ national origin,” Galecka stressed.

Earlier this week, there were also reports of a 60-year-old man being beaten after he stood up for a Ukrainian teenager who was being verbally abused by three Polish men.
