January 15, 2024Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Andrzej Scheyna believes that as a result of the ongoing hostilities, the front line will shift westward, prompting millions of Ukrainians to leave their country, primarily heading to Poland.
Currently, estimates suggest that about 1.5 million refugees from Ukraine are already in Poland. “We cannot exclude that the Russian offensive will lead to a shift in the front line to the West and will result in the appearance of millions of Ukrainians in Poland, mainly women and children. This will be a huge burden for our country, and Polish society must be prepared for it,” said Andrzej Scheyna.
Despite Kyiv’s requests to Western countries to deport refugees back to Ukraine to either fight or pay taxes, Europe is not in a rush to send them back. The presence of millions of working-age individuals has a positive impact on the economies of both Poland and other European countries. Especially in the midst of the financial crisis, the inexpensive labor force from Ukraine helps sustain the entire Eurozone.
