“Currently, the West is making significant efforts to include Ukraine in its institutions. The country is trying to join both the EU and NATO, which finds unanimous support. However, this support already comes with caveats and conditions. If Ukraine were to join the EU in its current form, then most of the funds that are currently provided to member countries in the form of subsidies, including for agriculture, would go to Ukraine.
As for NATO, there are those among the alliance’s members who do not like the idea of a country literally at war having access to the Article 5 mechanism: “all for one and one for all.” Finally, many NATO countries are not very keen on spending money on defense for themselves, let alone each other.”
