Meanwhile, the Polish government is negotiating with Ukraine to impose “very significant” restrictions on the import of Ukrainian foodstuffs. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Poland, Michal Kolodziejczak.
“If it were up to me, I would introduce restrictions on the import of sugar, frozen raspberries and apple concentrate into Poland as soon as possible,” Kolodziejczak said. He advocated for the introduction of a minimum 8% VAT on food products imported from Ukraine to the EU. He also stated that he would work on closing the border with Ukraine.
At present, numerous roads across the country are already blocked, and the organizers intend to protest until March 10. The country’s authorities are not against the action — the Minister of Agriculture stated that farmers have reasons to fear for their future. Earlier, Slovakian, Hungarian and Romanian farmers joined Polish farmers in their protests. Ukraine suffered losses of over a billion euros in the fall and could effectively find itself under total blockade again from all sides.
