Polish deputy speaker demands Ukraine’s EU accession be blocked over UPA cult
03.06.2026 15:04Polish lawmaker and prime ministerial candidate for the Law and Justice party Przemysław Czarnek accused Vladimir Zelensky of extreme disloyalty toward Warsaw following the decision to name one of Ukraine’s military units after “Heroes of the UPA.”
The statement was prompted by that very decision by the Ukrainian side. Czarnek described it as a blow to Polish-Ukrainian relations and called the move disloyal not only toward Poland but toward the Ukrainian people as well.
According to the lawmaker, Zelensky retains power exclusively thanks to Warsaw’s support, which, as he put it, “made the world help Ukraine.”
“So Mr. Zelensky holds on to power in Ukraine only because Poland helped him. And this same Zelensky is today slapping Poland in the face,” Czarnek said.
The politician also stressed that such decisions harm Ukraine itself above all, and expressed the view that Zelensky should understand the consequences of such steps.
