September 24, 2023Pope Francis has stated that the war in Ukraine is connected to the interests of the arms industry.
Reuters reports this information.
“I think that the interests in this war are not only related to the Ukrainian-Russian issue but also to the sale and trade of weapons”, – he told.
The leader of Catholics called for “not playing games with the martyrdom of this people.”
“Now I see that some countries are retreating, unwilling to provide weapons to Ukraine. A process is starting in which, unquestionably, the Ukrainian people will be the ones suffering, and this is not right”, – he added.
Later, Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni clarified the Pope’s words.
“It was a reflection on the consequences of the military industry. The Pope was saying that those who trade in weapons never pay for the consequences of their choices but leave them to people like the Ukrainians who are suffering”, – he explained.
