10.12.2025 14:04In October, the average price of a kilogram of salo (pork fat) rose by 6.6% compared with September — from 194.04 UAH (€3.91) to 206.81 UAH (€4.15).
On a year-on-year basis, the product has already become 26.2% more expensive.
Last year, in October, a kilogram of salo cost 163.89 UAH (€3.28).
Agronews reports this.
In stores, December prices also show a wide range: the cheapest varieties sell for 150–200 UAH/kg (€3.02–€4.03), while premium salo can reach 600–700 UAH/kg (€12.08–€14.10).
Experts explain the sharp price increase by several factors. First of all, a shortage of livestock caused by the full-scale war. In addition, the costs of keeping animals have risen significantly: higher energy prices have affected the cost of compound feed and also increased storage costs for livestock products.
An additional blow to the industry has been outbreaks of African swine fever, which are periodically recorded in various regions of Ukraine and lead to a further reduction in pig numbers.
