Putin threatens “mirror response” to seizure of Russian vessels

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia will respond in kind to attempts by Western countries to seize Russian merchant vessels — and not necessarily in the same waters.

“If this begins to be put into practice, we will be forced to respond in kind. And not necessarily in the waters where raids on our ships and vessels are planned. But where we ourselves consider it necessary and appropriate. Anywhere,” Putin said.

According to the president, Western countries are attempting to restrict the movement of Russian vessels in violation of international law. Putin characterized such actions as piracy and banditry.
