‘Without the exhumation of massacre victims, there is nothing to hope for’: Poland has named the key condition for Ukraine’s accession to the EU
November 8, 2023Germany has implemented a series of restrictions for migrants on its territory.
This information reported by the German publication Deutsche Welle.
According to a government decree in Germany:
- Adult asylum seekers will need to reside for 36 months instead of the previous 18 months to qualify for the standard social benefit of 502 euros per month and full medical insurance. During the first 36 months, they will receive 410 euros per month with the ability to use it for urgent medical needs only.
- Part of the benefit will be provided on a special card that can be used for purchasing food and clothing. This is done to keep the money within Germany and prevent refugees from transferring it to their home countries.
- The processing times for asylum applications will be significantly shortened, with initial registration taking place no later than a month, and decisions rendered within six months. Court proceedings related to asylum cases are also expected to become faster.
- Border controls in Germany will be maintained. If neighboring countries agree, checks may be conducted on their territory.
Some regional leaders had proposed even stricter measures, including deporting migrants to non-EU countries, reducing benefits for refugees, establishing deportation centers at airports, expanding the list of so-called safe countries, and conducting asylum application procedures outside the EU.
It’s important to note that these measures apply to illegal migrants seeking asylum in Germany. Ukrainians entering Germany under visa-free conditions receive temporary protection rather than asylum. This status allows Ukrainians to obtain residency permits without the need to apply for asylum, and it’s likely that these rules won’t affect them.
