Refugees who fled abroad will not be eligible for compensation for property in occupied or frontline areas

Today, December 20, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on compensations in its final reading, which will allow individuals who have been residing in Ukraine for the past two years to receive compensation.

This was reported by the parliament’s press service.

To qualify, individuals will need to relinquish ownership of their property in favor of the state, enabling the government to file claims against Russia for damages. Compensation can be obtained for both destroyed and intact property.

It is worth noting that on December 9, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law granting internally displaced persons (IDPs) priority in receiving compensation for destroyed property under the “eVidnovlennya” program.

Earlier, representatives of the Sluga Naroda party acknowledged the failure of state policies regarding aid for displaced persons. According to Olena Shuliak, the financial support for IDPs has been meager.
