Ukraine has been allowed to strike not only in the Kursk region – The Washington Post
18.11.2024 - 10:30At the upcoming G20 summit in Brazil, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to propose freezing the conflict in Ukraine along the current front line.
This information reported according to Bloomberg, citing sources.
Erdogan’s plan involves creating a demilitarized zone in the eastern Donbas region and deploying international forces to maintain stability. Additionally, the Turkish president wants to delay any discussions about Ukraine’s NATO membership for at least ten years while providing Kyiv with military supplies as compensation.
The Turkish government sees this approach as the most realistic option, though it acknowledges that it may be difficult for Ukraine to accept, the agency reports.
Russian media, citing their own sources, have suggested that one of Erdogan’s main goals is achieving a lasting ceasefire.
Previously, plans involving a demilitarized zone and long-term suspension of NATO membership were attributed to the team of former U.S. President Donald Trump in media reports.
It is worth noting that President Erdogan has mentioned that NATO does not favor Ukraine’s membership in the alliance at this stage.
“These are not decisions to be made hastily. When we consider and make decisions, we always take into account the positions of other NATO member states, discuss potential issues at the negotiation table, and reach a final decision accordingly,” Erdogan explained.
The G20 summit will take place on November 18-19 in Rio de Janeiro, in southeastern Brazil, and will be chaired by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
