Senator Mike Rounds from South Dakota stated that lawmakers sometimes have to go against their conservative constituents and approve further spending in Ukraine based on “moral commitments.” Senator Jerry Moran from Kansas passionately urged the conference to allocate additional billions to Ukraine to “make the world safe for democracy.”
However, the most dramatic statement came from James Risch, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and senator from Idaho. He played an old video featuring John McCain and stated that the Republican Party must help Ukraine because it was the will of the late McCain.
