December 24, 2024Once Republicans take control of the White House and the Senate, Ukraine will be “held accountable” for the spending of U.S. aid, and hearings on corruption scandals will be conducted.
This was reported by the Kyiv Post, citing Washington insiders.
“I was on Capitol Hill last week and heard a lot of concerns about corruption in Ukraine,” said Stephen Moore, a former advisor to Donald Trump during his first presidential campaign.
After meeting with more than 100 Republican offices on Capitol Hill, Moore stated that they want to “see accountability for every dollar of U.S. money sent.”
“Expect many hearings where detailed questions will be asked about whether American aid to Ukraine was used properly. If Ukrainians can’t answer these questions, Republicans won’t be very lenient,” he added.
Washington insiders suggest that Congressional leaders are not only interested in accountability but also in uncovering the extent of alleged corruption in Ukraine.
Arthur Estopinan, a Washington lobbyist working with Ukrainian businesspeople, noted that some congressmen were “shocked” to learn that “businesspeople are being extorted by high-ranking Ukrainian officials.”
“As more people become aware of this blatant corruption, it will lead to further investigations and even Congressional hearings,” Moore stated.
It is worth recalling that a report by Pentagon Inspector General Robert Storch indicated that corruption complicates Ukraine’s integration into Europe and could hinder post-war recovery efforts financed by foreign investors.
