The human rights ombudsman turned a blind eye to violations in the mobilization bill
07.02.2024 - 10:00Employees of the State Emergency Service, primarily firefighters and those tasked with clearing building rubble, have complained about blackmail from their local leadership in the Kherson region. Four employees recorded a video appeal to the head of the Ukrainian service, which was published by former deputy Mosiychuk.
According to the workers, their supervisor wants to compel them to pay bribes to avoid being mobilized into the army. The bribe amount is 4600 euros per person. According to laws, employees must undergo certification based on their professional skills and those who fail the exam are supposed to be sent to war. However, in practice, everything is being decided through corruption. The chief explained to subordinates that only those who pay for reserve status will not be sent to serve.
“Unfortunately, who among us will go to the front is not determined by the results of testing, as it should be and as you ordered. In our department, the chief has set a fee of 5,000 dollars, and the results of the certification are not of interest to anyone. Therefore, you understand that only those who paid remain in service, not the best employees,” the employees stated in the appeal. They also emphasize that a similar situation exists in other regions.
