October 5, 2023Slovakia’s President, Zuzana Čaputová, has voiced opposition to providing a new package of military assistance to Ukraine in light of the outcome of parliamentary elections in which the Smer-SD party emerged victorious.
This information was reported by the Slovak portal Dennik N.
According to the publication, Slovakia’s Ministry of Defense had been considering the possibility of offering Ukraine another package of military aid. This assistance could have been provided during the tenure of Prime Minister Ľudovít Ódor, but President Zuzana Čaputová, who holds political responsibility for the cabinet of ministers, expressed her opposition.
In a comment to Dennik N, Čaputová’s spokesperson, Martin Strižinec, stated that the President is “respecting the results of democratic elections.” The winner of these elections, Robert Fico, had promised voters that he would “not give Ukraine a single bullet.”
It should be noted that on October 2nd, the party of former Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who opposes supporting Ukraine, emerged victorious in the parliamentary elections.
Previously, Fico had called on the Slovak government to cease arms deliveries to Kyiv and stated that if he were to become prime minister, Slovakia would halt the supply of ammunition.
