‘Refused to explain his motives’: armed man in Kyiv storms business center and opens fire. He has been detained
October 12, 2023The Romanian Ministry of Defense has stated that Russian drones entered their territory because they were shot down by Ukrainian air defense.
This information was reported by the Romanian newspaper Digi24.
The Minister of Defense of Romania, Angel Tîlvăr, mentioned that the investigation has completed a technical examination of drone fragments “recovered from two locations” and has submitted a report to the prosecutor general in accordance with the procedures.
According to him, the information in the report “indicates that the drones were hit by Ukrainian air defense systems during attacks on the port of Izmail and went off course near the target, leading to their accidental entry into national airspace and falling near the Romanian territory.”
“We have not detected any intent in any of these situations; Romania was not the target, and the strikes were accidental,” Tîlvăr added, emphasizing that due to objective reasons, such as low altitude, terrain, and more, the Romanian air defense could not detect the drones in advance.
Shortly after the exit from the Black Sea Grain Initiative on July 17, Russia began targeting Ukrainian ports and warehouses along the Danube. Drone fragments were repeatedly found in Romanian territory after these attacks.
Following the third incident where Romania reported the identification of drone fragments on its territory, NATO stated that the Alliance had no information about a deliberate attack by Russia.
Due to the threat to the population, Romania began constructing shelters in border areas with Ukraine, and residents received their first alerts during another Russian aerial attack on Ukrainian ports along the Danube.
