Romania destroys two drones near the Neptun Deep gas project in the Black Sea

Romanian military divers destroyed two unmanned aerial vehicles that were drifting in the exclusive economic zone of the Black Sea near the major offshore gas project Neptun Deep.

According to Romanian Defense Minister Radu Miruta, the drones are of the “Gerbera” type. They were discovered by a civilian vessel operating near the offshore gas project.

The minister did not specify the origin of the drones, but said that Ukraine had confirmed the unmanned vehicles do not belong to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“In order to ensure the safety of the shipping channel and the work being carried out around the platform, a decision was made to conduct a controlled destruction by detonation,” Miruta said.

It was previously reported that the price of wheat and corn had reached its highest level since April 2023. The price spike is linked to an intensification of strikes on vessels in the Black Sea.

In addition, it was previously reported that Turkey may put forward an initiative to establish two safety corridors in the Black Sea for vessels heading to Ukraine and Russia.
