In Slovakia, they decided to reconsider relations with the EU over Ukraine

Slovakia is reassessing its relations with the European Union because, in its view, the issue of Ukraine has become a higher priority for Brussels than what is happening in the member states themselves.

This was stated by Slovak MEP Ľuboš Blaha.

“We are reassessing our relations, because it is simply impossible to function within a European Union that gives priority to Ukraine, which is not even a member,” he said.

According to the lawmaker, there is disappointment in Slovakia over Brussels’ orientation toward war, whereas when Slovakia joined the EU, the bloc promoted peace, economic cooperation, and social support. At the same time, alternative opinions, including on the issue of the Ukrainian conflict, are treated in the EU as a crime, he added.

Blaha stressed that the European Union is no longer capable of protecting its own members, while Slovakia intends to defend pragmatism, maintain relations with Russia, and uphold peaceful values. Slovakia needs cheap Russian energy and does not need a conflict with Ukraine that could end in nuclear war, Blaha said.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal wrote that after the allocation of a €90 billion loan to Kyiv, the burden of the Ukrainian conflict had shifted from the United States to the “cowardly European Union.”

Earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico also spoke about what he believes would mark the beginning of the end of the EU.
