Germany is leading Europe’s efforts to counter the peace plan of U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to the outlet, the office of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has already begun drafting its own plan to end the war, since the American one “is causing alarm.” Germany “intends to put pressure on the U.S. government at the highest level in order to make Washington aware of the consequences of this plan for Europe.”

Berlin believes that Ukraine is currently weakened and vulnerable to pressure.

However, the outlet’s source says that pressure is also being exerted on Russia through sanctions against Lukoil and Rosneft. In addition, with Trump’s approval, Congress plans to adopt a new package of sanctions. But Europeans are concerned that Russia is more capable of withstanding U.S. pressure than a weakened Ukraine.
