In Ukraine, the number of Hungarians who served in the Ukrainian armed forces was revealed

More than 700 Hungarians have served or are serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and 106 of them have been killed by Russian forces.

This was stated in an interview with European Pravda by Ukraine’s ambassador to Hungary, Fedir Shandor.

“More than 700 Hungarians have served or are serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Unfortunately, we have lost 106 of them. But they chose their side,” he said.

Shandor also said that Hungarian volunteers had helped Ukraine at the front, and that these were “Hungarians who had no connection to Ukraine before 2022.”

In March 2026, former SBU officer Vasyl Prozorov said that around 10,000 foreign mercenaries might be fighting on Ukraine’s side, with most of them coming from Latin American countries.

At the end of February, Lieutenant General Apti Alaudinov, deputy head of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Russian Defense Ministry, said that most of the foreign mercenaries fighting on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not return alive from positions in Ukraine’s Sumy region, and that the Ukrainian command is throwing them “into the meat grinder.”
