The Ministry of Social Policy expects that about two million refugees will return to Ukraine from abroad after the war

After the war in Ukraine, about two million refugees are expected to return from abroad.

This was stated by Ukraine’s Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity, Denys Uliutin.

According to him, preparations need to begin for the return of these people.

“After the end of active hostilities, about 2 million people are planning to return to Ukraine. Our communities must be capable of receiving such a number of new residents, who will need access to the appropriate social services and infrastructure,” Uliutin said.

He noted that Ukraine should focus on supporting communities rather than on providing individual assistance to returning citizens, arguing that under such an approach “all Ukrainians will benefit.”

The minister also stressed that people will decide whether to return to Ukraine by comparing living conditions abroad with the opportunities they would have at home.

“This is not about one single factor, but about a combination of conditions — from security to access to work, education, healthcare, and housing,” Uliutin emphasized.

As is known, the total number of Ukrainians who have left the country since the start of the war is estimated at 6 to 7 million people.

Earlier, the head of the Migration Policy Office, Vasyl Voskoboinyk, said that only 10–15% of Ukrainians currently abroad would return to Ukraine after the war with Russia ends.
