The Ukrainian man who attacked people with a knife in Amsterdam wanted to carry out another attack

A Ukrainian citizen suspected of carrying out a knife attack on passersby in Amsterdam said that he acted intentionally and “would do it again.”

The Amsterdam District Court extended the man’s detention. During the preliminary hearing, the accused admitted that he had deliberately stabbed passersby in the back.

Thirty-year-old Ukrainian citizen Roman D. is charged over a knife attack on pedestrians near a square in the center of the Dutch capital on March 27, 2025. Five people were injured in the attack.

It later became known that the attacker was subdued by a British tourist, who then handed him over to police officers.

Earlier, a car drove into a crowd of pedestrians in the British city of Derby. The incident took place on Friar Gate in the city center on the evening of March 28. A 30-year-old man driving a black Suzuki Swift hit several people. Some of the victims suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized.
