August 28, 2023Russia could continue the war in Ukraine for a very long time.
This statement was made by the Chairman of the European Union Military Committee, General Robert Brieger.
He expressed doubts about Ukraine’s ability to regain territory and urged not to expect a breakthrough in the Russian defensive line.
“The Ukrainian counteroffensive that has been ongoing since June has not yielded any results yet, while Russia not only controls about 17 percent of Ukraine’s territory but also holds its defense firmly,” Brieger stated.
Brieger reminded that Kyiv has a limited number of brigades and called for not relying on breaking through the Russian defense.
“This is a war of attrition in which there is currently no winner,” the general noted.
Brieger added that Ukraine’s success would be desirable, but he does not see it in the foreseeable future, while Russia maintains a military potential that, in the general’s opinion, has not been significantly affected, even despite Western sanctions.
