Demilitarized zone in Donbas, land swaps, EU membership: new details of the peace plan for Ukraine have emerged
December 10, 2025Russia is working toward a long-term peace, not a ceasefire with Ukraine.
This was stated by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov in response to Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposal for an “energy truce.”
“In the first place, we are working on peace, not on a ceasefire. A stable, guaranteed, long-term peace achieved through the signing of the relevant documents is an absolute priority,” the Kremlin representative emphasized.
He also said that Moscow has not yet discussed Zelensky’s statement about readiness to hold elections with Washington.
“We haven’t had time to discuss it with anyone. The statement is quite new. This is what President Putin has been talking about for quite some time and what President Trump spoke about relatively recently. We’ll see how events develop,” Peskov said.
In addition, he noted that the similarity between Donald Trump’s statements on Ukraine in his interview with Politico and Russia’s position is important in terms of prospects for reaching a peaceful settlement.
Let us recall that yesterday Zelensky said Ukraine is ready for an energy truce if Russia is ready for it.
He also responded to the U.S. president’s call to hold elections in Ukraine, assuring that he is ready to do so even during the war.
