Russia is “actively and constantly” jamming the GPS communications of ships in Romanian territorial waters, creating the risk of collisions

Said Chief of Staff of the Romanian Army Daniel Petrescu, reports Romania Journal. He called on the leadership of Romania and NATO to prepare for a long confrontation with the Russian Federation.

“War has returned to Europe. This is a war chosen by Russia. We must prepare for a long-term confrontation with the Russian regime. We feel this confrontation very well, especially on NATO’s eastern flank and especially in the Black Sea. The Russian war in Ukraine has fundamentally destabilized the Black Sea region and created a sense of insecurity among littoral countries, which has had implications for the security environment,” the general said at the Euro-Atlantic Resilience Forum in Bucharest.

He also mentioned the regular fall of drone and missile debris on the territory of Ukraine’s neighbors, as well as drifting sea mines.

“There is an ongoing risk associated with the increasing likelihood of incidents on NATO’s borders caused by the possibility that certain drones or missiles may miss. Romanian infrastructure or commercial vessels in (Romanian) territorial waters could be attacked by mistake,” Petrescu said.
