Russia commented on compromises in negotiations on Ukraine
08.08.2025 - 11:30Russia could achieve a strategic breakthrough at the front in the coming months.
This opinion was expressed by Bild military observer Julian Röpcke.
According to him, in several areas in eastern Ukraine, Russian forces over the past two years have created conditions to either capture or block four groups of cities within a few months. This list includes Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, Kostiantynivka, Chasiv Yar and Toretsk, Siversk and its surroundings, as well as Kupiansk with the area east of the Oskil River.
Röpcke claims that in these directions, Russian forces have taken control of hundreds of small settlements and formed partial encirclements of cities — in some cases from three sides. By his estimate, to completely cut off supplies and capture up to 1,000 square kilometers of territory, they would only need to advance a few more kilometers.
He believes that such a scenario could bring Russia closer to capturing all of Donbas, pose a threat to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, and open the way for a crossing of the Oskil River and an advance on Kharkiv. Later, he says, strikes in other directions — including the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions — would also be possible.
“This course of events clearly shows: the offensive in the east is by no means merely tactical, but has the potential to lead to a strategic breakthrough in the coming months,” Röpcke added.
Earlier, Deep State reported that in July, Russian forces achieved their highest rate of advance in Ukraine since the start of 2025.
