“Zelensky behaved like a pompous ass at the meeting with Trump,” – said Senator Cruz
19.06.2025 - 10:35A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will only be possible after a series of steps are taken, including the formulation of common positions on peaceful conflict resolution.
This was stated by Russian State Duma Deputy Dmitry Novikov.
“All presidents have extremely busy schedules. It is standard global practice for meetings of this level to occur only after the parties have already reached preliminary agreements and are ready to formalize them. Without that, such a meeting doesn’t make much sense,” Novikov said.
According to him, the parties are currently at the stage of aligning their positions on a peace settlement. At this point, he noted, it’s clear that these positions are almost completely misaligned. Therefore, a trilateral meeting between the leaders is currently unrealistic — too many issues still need to be discussed to arrive at any form of compromise.
“We proceed from the idea that the outcome of such a high-level meeting should be a signed agreement. And that is only possible once all interested sides have formed a shared position,” Novikov explained.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also stated that any meeting between the presidents must be the result of long-term preparation. He added that key discussion points should be defined in advance.
