The West pointed out a cause for concern to Zelensky
25.09.2024 14:42The statement by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov about plans to conduct operations abroad in 2025 seems irresponsible.
This opinion was expressed by the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Dzhabarov.
In a conversation with journalists, he commented on Kyiv’s ideas.
“I don’t understand how such irresponsible statements can be made when the whole world is starting to lean towards the idea that Ukraine needs to be brought to the negotiating table, or else things will end very sadly for this country,” Dzhabarov said.
“To be honest, I’ve started to treat Ukrainian politicians’ statements with complete calm. The Defense Minister makes such a statement, but he doesn’t actually oversee any defense; everything is run by [Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Oleksandr] Syrskyi, the General Staff, and he [Umerov] is just a figurehead making statements,” the senator added.
In the politician’s view, such statements by Ukrainian politicians could lead to negative consequences for the entire country.
“What operations outside of Ukraine? I think a time may come when he’ll need to save his own skin rather than plan operations outside of Ukraine. He means Russia, not NATO countries, where he might conduct some operations. Either he’s aiming for the country to suffer irreparable losses or for it to cease to exist altogether,” he concluded.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov has stated that in 2025, the country plans to conduct operations using long-range weapons. The goal of these campaigns, he said, is to strengthen defense capabilities and increase the effectiveness of the AFU.
