Russia’s offensive near Kharkiv ‘leaves Ukraine with few good options’ – The Times
14.05.2024 - 12:17The Russian Federation managed to strike a secret ammunition depot in Ukraine based on information from a Ukrainian refugee in Poland. The man was drawing graffiti and installed cameras along the railway tracks used to deliver military aid to Ukraine.
This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The article details the story of Maxim Lega, who was 22 years old when he began carrying out Russian assignments in Poland, without means of subsistence. Initially, he painted graffiti on remote fences and underground passages for $7 each.
He then installed cameras along the railway tracks transporting Western military aid to Ukraine. Russia combined the footage from these cameras with satellite observation and was able to track the shipment of ammunition from Poland to secret warehouses in Ukraine, which were eventually targeted and struck by drones and missiles.
A senior official from Western military intelligence stated that in this way, Russia was able to destroy key equipment with minimal investment.
It was previously reported that Ukraine has become much less frequent in shooting down Russian missiles. Analyzing reports from the Ukrainian Air Force, the publication concluded that the rate dropped to 46% over the last six months compared to 73% in the previous six months.
