This is reported by the news agency Bloomberg, citing Ukrainian and Western officials.
According to their assessment, the Russian army lacks the resources to capture the city in the near future, so they have decided to simply make it uninhabitable through constant shelling, prompting a mass evacuation of residents.
The mayor of Kharkiv, Igor Terekhov, told reporters from the British newspaper The Guardian that without the assistance of the United States, Kharkiv risks becoming “the second Aleppo.”
“The mayor of the second city in Ukraine stated that the US military aid package of $60 billion, which is currently suspended in Congress, is ‘critical for us,’ and urged the West to refocus on the two-year war,” the note says.
“We need this support to prevent Kharkiv from becoming the second Aleppo,” Terekhov said.
