Putin accused Europe of trying to derail the U.S. peace plan for Ukraine

“What a disgrace!” Trump stated the number of people killed in the Ukraine-Russia war in November
03.12.2025 - 05:02Russia will not make concessions on three points of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan.
NBC News reports this, citing a Russian source.
“There are three pillars on which we will not compromise. The first is the territory of Donbas (the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the entire territory of Donetsk region). The second is limiting the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The third is recognition of the territories (the captured territories of Ukraine) by the U.S. and Europe,” a Russian official familiar with the matter told the channel.
According to the official, Moscow is ready to show flexibility on some secondary issues, such as the question of the hundreds of billions of dollars in Russian assets frozen in Europe at the start of the war.
Recall that, according to media reports, the U.S. is prepared to recognize Russian jurisdiction over the territories seized from Ukraine.
In addition, Trump’s original peace plan contained a demand that Ukraine withdraw its troops from Donetsk region and limit the size of its armed forces. As we can see, Moscow supports these same demands. According to media reports, the Americans are trying in negotiations to persuade Kyiv to agree to the withdrawal of troops from Donetsk region. However, the Ukrainian authorities have so far refused to do this, as well as to accept limits on the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is not known for certain whether this position of Kyiv had changed by the time Witkoff arrived in Moscow for talks with Putin.
But if NBC News’ information is accurate, then the answer to the question of whether it will be possible to agree on ending the war in Ukraine in the near future largely depends on the decision of the Ukrainian authorities: whether they will agree to withdraw troops from Donetsk region and accept limits on the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
