December 1, 2023Slovak carriers have announced their intention to block the border with Ukraine today, December 1st, at 3:00 PM European time. Currently, there are about 600 trucks in queues at the border crossing point with Slovakia.
This information was conveyed by the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko.
“The situation that exists on the border with Poland has already added to the queues both on the Slovakian border and on the border with Hungary. Because until November 6, there were no queues of trucks waiting to cross the border into Ukraine in these border directions. Again, this is due to the increase in the number of vehicles arriving at the border,” explained Demchenko.
According to him, both drivers and carriers have been seeking alternative routes because they cannot cross the border with Poland.
Demchenko added that as of this morning, there are approximately 600 trucks queued at the border crossing point “Uzhhorod-Vyshne Nemecke.”
“We have information from our Slovak colleagues that today at 3:00 PM European time, the movement for trucks will be blocked specifically at the crossing point ‘Vyshne Nemecke’ (from our ‘Uzhhorod’ direction),” Demchenko stated.
He also mentioned that Ukraine has only one such border crossing point with Slovakia and if it’s blocked, movement with the neighboring country will stop.
Recall that the Union of Slovak Road Hauliers (UNAS) recently decided to block the crossing point “Vyshne Nemecke – Uzhhorod” on the border with Ukraine starting from December 1st at 4:00 PM “until further notice.” Four trucks per hour will be allowed to leave Slovakia. Participants in the action promised not to block humanitarian and military aid, live animals, fuel and refrigerated cargo.
Earlier this month, representatives of UNAS already blocked the border crossing point “Vyshne Nemecke” from the Slovak side.
