07.05.2025 11:54The European Union’s desire to abandon Russian energy resources amounts to economic suicide.
This accusation was made by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
“It’s economic suicide to reach a point where there is no gas, no oil, no nuclear fuel, nothing [from Russia]—just because some kind of new Iron Curtain is being erected between the Western world and, possibly, Russia and other countries,” the politician said, commenting on the European Commission’s “roadmap” for phasing out Russian resources.
Fico described the European Commission’s approach as an “extremely dangerous game.” He added that Slovakia intends to draw the Commission’s attention to the risks associated with such a decision.
Earlier, Fico revealed that he had received threats over his decision to attend Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9. According to him, the visit is a symbol of dissent against the new Iron Curtain between Europe and Russia.
