Ukrainian military officer describes challenges in operating Western equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
12.01.2024 06:07The Pentagon has released a report stating that military aid to Ukraine was poorly tracked and controlled.
According to the NYT, the Pentagon’s Inspector General found that representatives of the Defense Department and diplomats in Washington and Europe were unable to quickly or fully account for almost 40,000 units of weapons sent to Ukraine.
The Pentagon’s report states that U.S. officials did not properly track portable missile systems, kamikaze drones, and night vision devices totaling over one billion dollars. According to the report’s authors, this raises concerns that some of the equipment may have been stolen or become subject to smuggling.
However, the Inspector General’s report does not provide evidence that any of the weapons were misused after being delivered to the U.S. military logistics center in Poland or sent further to the battlefields in Ukraine.
“Our assessment tasks did not include determining whether such diversion occurred,” the report states.
