11.08.2026 15:09South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that Seoul will not supply lethal weapons to Ukraine.
This was reported by the Yonhap agency, citing a senior official of the South Korean foreign policy ministry.
The statement came in response to remarks by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who the day before said that North Korea was planning to send additional troops to Russia.
“The government has offered Ukraine support in various sectors, including energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and education, and will continue to consider measures to assist Ukraine in restoring peace and rebuilding,” the official said, confirming Seoul’s position that arms supplies to Ukraine remain off the table.
According to Yonhap, South Korea maintains a policy of providing Ukraine with humanitarian aid without supplying lethal weapons.
Zelensky, for his part, stated that Moscow plans to deploy up to 50,000 North Korean military personnel on Russian territory. In his assessment, North Korean soldiers are studying the experience of modern warfare, which Pyongyang could use in the event of possible crises and conflicts in the Asia-Pacific region.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence reported that Russian forces were deploying a North Korean unit near Voronezh that could strike Ukraine with its missiles.
