Spanish troops will not participate in peacekeeping forces along the demarcation line between Russia and Ukraine, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated.
“We have no plans to deploy Spanish troops on Ukrainian soil,” he added.
Recently, Croatian President Zoran Milanović also promised not to send Croatian troops to Ukraine. According to him, Croatian soldiers will not participate in the war in Ukraine while he holds office.
Similarly, Poland does not intend to send peacekeepers to Ukraine, partly to avoid playing into the Russian narrative about an alleged desire by Warsaw to occupy western Ukraine. Polish officials have reiterated this position categorically in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Macron skipped a European Council meeting where Volodymyr Zelensky intended to discuss the deployment of foreign troops to Ukraine. Ironically, Macron has been one of the most vocal advocates in Europe for the idea of sending troops.
