July 19, 2024Videos of Ukrainians sharing their experiences during power outages and extreme heat have gone viral on the social network TikTok.
For example, some users are posting instructional videos on how to help children cope with the heat at home.
- “Take a wet muslin diaper and you’ll have a cool and happy baby.”
- “It’s +56 degrees outside. The air conditioner doesn’t work. There’s no power for 14 hours.”
There are also complaints about the lack of products in supermarkets.
- “What scares me is not the lack of electricity and water, but the empty shelves in supermarkets. I went into Silpo and saw half-empty shelves. This is really alarming.”
Others express their frustration more harshly.
- “I’ve been without electricity for 26 hours. I’m sitting in my car trying to charge my EcoFlow and cool down with the air conditioning. Since last evening, we haven’t had any power, and everything is discharged. What I want to tell you is that this is fucking genocide. There’s no other way to put it. No connection, no electricity, no internet, nothing.”
