October 2, 2023The Swiss government today announced its intention to transfer more than 100 million Swiss francs (103 million euros) to the Ukrainian authorities for demining the country from 2024 to 2027.
The money is expected to be spent on the purchase of special equipment and training of Ukrainian sappers. The message from the Swiss government separately notes that demining Ukraine is a necessary condition for its restoration.
According to Swiss officials, almost a third of Ukrainian territory is strewn with mines and other explosive devices. Farmers are now becoming victims of explosions during agricultural work. On numerous occasions, small children have been injured or killed by anti-personnel mines.
The International Center for Humanitarian Mine Action is located in Geneva, Switzerland; its specialists have extensive experience in clearing mines in various areas. Since the Swiss government traditionally remains neutral in military conflicts, it can only help Kyiv by funding humanitarian missions.
