Szijjártó named the reason why Ukraine will not be able to join the EU

Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, said that Ukraine will not be able to join the European Union as long as the government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán remains in power.

According to Szijjártó, the EU understands that Hungary will not agree to what he called “completely insane mechanisms of financial support” for Ukraine.

“They also know that if we come to power or remain in power, Ukraine will not be a member of the EU,” Szijjártó said.

He added that if “they manage to overthrow the Hungarian government, they will also deprive the rest of [the countries] of enthusiasm and courage.”

Earlier, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, in an interview with TASS, commented on Ukraine’s blocking of oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline, saying that Brussels, using Kyiv, is trying to create difficulties for supplying Hungary with oil products in order to cause fuel shortages and public dissatisfaction. In this way, Azarov claimed, they plan to undermine Orbán so that he loses the parliamentary elections in April.
