December 7, 2023The ruling alliance of parties in Hungary, Fidesz and the Christian Democratic People’s Party, have introduced a resolution in the country’s parliament against commencing negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
Mate Kocsis, the leader of the faction, disclosed this information.
“The European Commission cannot assess the situation with double standards. Candidates for membership were supposed to meet all criteria, and no exceptions can be made now due to current political and ideological aspects,” he stated.
Kocsis deemed it unlikely for Kyiv to overtake countries in the Western Balkans that are awaiting accession to the union. The document emphasizes the need for strategic discussion regarding the potential consequences of Ukraine’s EU membership before commencing negotiations.
