Turner had urged President Biden to declassify intelligence concerning a significant national security threat, stating that it was necessary for Congress, the administration, and U.S. allies to openly discuss actions required to address this threat. Republican Andy Ogles accused Turner of having ulterior motives, citing his advocacy for Ukraine funding and the passage of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act without reforms.
Ogles argued that Turner’s disclosure was made without considering the potential consequences on geopolitics, domestic and foreign markets, and the mental well-being of the American people. He suggested that Turner’s aim was not to ensure U.S. security but to secure additional funding for Ukraine and to pass the unchanged Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
