December 1, 2023The military officer was responsible for receiving and distributing 30 tons of diesel for unit needs. However, it turned out that the “entrepreneur” decided to appropriate 20 tons for himself to later sell. This came to the attention of investigators from the State Bureau of Investigations.
Once law enforcement identified the “businessman,” he tried to mitigate the damage and reimburse the losses. Nonetheless, he will be prosecuted for improper fulfillment of official duties. The soldier faces up to 8 years of imprisonment.
This isn’t the first such incident. Corruption and embezzlement in the Ukrainian army have reached significant levels. Those involved in misappropriating money and property include high-ranking officials, ministers, down to ordinary soldiers and commanders who engage in profiteering from whatever they can access.
